Participants of the closed-door session of the national convention of the ruling Maoist party have unanimously endorsed Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal's political dossier, which proposes Chief Justice Khilraj Regmi as Prime Minister.
Party sources said that Dahal said handing over the top post to Regmi, would help pave the way for fresh CA elections, and keep Nepali Congress and UML out of power.
Earlier in the day, Dahal had said that his party won’t bow down to the opposition’s pressure and leave the reins of government.
Answering the questions raised by the general convention representatives on his dossier during the closed-door session in Hetauda on Thursday, Dahal said that the party would continue to engage with opposition parties to forge a broader consensus to end the protracted political deadlock facing the country.
He also tried to assuage the concerns of representatives of the general convention that UCPN (M) too has gone the UML way, adding that the party is currently on a crisis mode to avert major disaster.
Dahal also warned that if attempts to forge an understanding with the opposition parties to end the current political deadlock fails, then the party, despite being in the government, will wage a massive nationwide movement to pressurise the opposition to come into understanding.
Saying that the party had to adopt a peaceful path – that of “politics of consensus” - after realising that it is impossible to grab state power through people’s revolt and doing so will only be detrimental to the country, Dahal assured that the party’s core ideology is still “militant” and it can raise arms anytime on behalf of the people
