Shiva Ram‚ Sanjay enter final

KATHMANDU: Defending champion Shiva Ram Shrestha set title date with Sanjay Lama in the Surya Nepal NPGA Match Play here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) today.

Nepal No 1 Shiva Ram registered a routine 3&2 victory over No 4 Surya Prasad Sharma in an all-RNGC semi-final, while Army Club’s Sanjay was pushed to fourth playoff hole before prevailing over Gokarna Golf Club’s Deepak Acharya.

Deepak, who was 2-up after the front nine, paid for his own mistakes despite going 3-up on the 10th hole. Deepak not only saw his grip gradually loosen up but also handed victory to Sanjay.

The other semi-final between Shiva Ram and Surya was a one-sided affair. Shiva Ram did not make mistakes and capitalised on the errors of Surya to earn the victory with two holes remaining. “I played error free game,” said Shiva Ram, who carded four birdies in his bogey-free round.

Asked about the final, Shiva Ram said the competition over 36 holes was an advantage for him. “I don’t think I will have any problem in final. For me playing 36 holes is not a difficult job,” he said. The final will be played over 36 holes, while the third-place match will be played over 18 holes.

The winner will earn Rs 50,000 and the runner-up will get Rs 30,000. The third and fourth placed pros will get Rs 22,000 and Rs 18,000.
